Highfield Middle School’s Citizenship curriculum intends to develop the qualities and attributes that pupils need to succeed as individuals and members of society by producing well-rounded pupils who are respectful, who contribute to all aspects of school life and the wider community, who put in effort, who achieve and are ready for life in modern Britain.
Children are encouraged to think critically, discuss and contribute in lessons and have opinions on the ever-changing world we live in. We intend for them to be responsible users of social media and embed a deep understanding of how to be a respectful person and form respectful relationships. We also encourage them to be enterprising as well as aspiring to aim high to achieve economic wellbeing.
The PSHE and Citizenship curriculum at Highfield provides our pupils with the following important skills and opportunities:
- opportunities to think critically from different perspectives by exploring, clarifying, and if necessary challenging, their own and others’ values, attitudes, beliefs, rights and responsibilities;
- the skills, language and strategies they need in order to live healthy, safe, fulfilling, responsible and balanced lives;
- opportunities to develop positive personal attributes such as resilience, self-confidence, self-esteem, and empathy.
