In our Design & Technology program, we have a clear mission to promote resilience and empower our students to overcome challenges, developing their problem-solving skills and adaptability. We do this in part by encouraging pupils to refine their design process and through evaluation of completed projects. Through our curriculum, we aim to broaden horizons and raise aspirations, exposing students to a wealth of opportunities for personal development and growth. We are involved with several projects with businesses within the North East and our pupils are given the opportunity to take part in projects run out of school throughout the year.

We are dedicated to fostering a learning environment where students actively contribute to their own education and the betterment of society. We strive to teach our pupils to always aim high, instilling in them a sense of ambition and a belief in their own capabilities. Our projects are designed so pupils can build upon the skills previously learnt and become increasingly challenging as they progress through the school.

Creativity and innovation are at the core of our Design Technology program. We inspire students to think outside the box, encouraging them to generate unique and imaginative solutions. We believe in embedding deep understanding of design principles and technical knowledge, equipping our students with the skills and expertise needed to excel in the field.

Our students graduate from our program well prepared and ready for the next phase of their education or professional pursuits. We have close links with our feeder High School and collaborate with their Head of Department to ensure all Year 8 pupils leave with the necessary skills to succeed in Year 9. We emphasise not only academic excellence but also personal development and well-being, ensuring a holistic approach to their growth.

At Highfield, we value the importance of an education relevant to our community. We provide a broad, rich, diverse, and inclusive learning experience that embraces the unique needs and perspectives of our students. We challenge and support each student individually, creating an environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential, adjusting the year group projects to individual needs.
