At Highfield it is our intention to create a lifelong love for physical activity, sport and PE for all our pupils. We pride ourselves on delivering a broad curriculum following the National Curriculum framework. At KS2 we build on fundamental skills through a variety of activities ready to progress into KS3 where we start to look at developing more sports specific skills in preparation for transition to high school. Our broad and varied programme includes the following activities for boys and girls; football, netball, flag football, hockey, rugby, lacrosse, gymnastics, athletics, tennis, fitness, tchoukball, swimming, cricket and rounders.

We offer a variety of opportunities beyond the class room with our extensive PE extra curricular programme which takes place during lunchtimes and after school delivered by our teachers and local coaches. All pupils are welcome and encouraged to participate to develop skills, be a part of a team or just interact with their peers.

Through PE/sport some pupils take on leadership roles as Year 6 Play Leaders and Year 8 Sports Leaders who organise and lead activities for other pupils at school. These activities include Year 5 break/lunch clubs and termly House sporting events where all pupils have the opportunity to represent their house in organised competition.

We have many school teams where pupils have the opportunity to represent their school and experience competition locally, regionally and nationally. It is important pupils feel they are part of a team and work together towards a common goal; we aim to create resilient pupils who can deal with the highs and lows of competitive sport.

We are able to use PE/ sport to support transition from Year 4-5 and Year 8-9 for our pupils. With the support of our Sports Leaders, we host an annual football festival for Year 4 pupils. We also have links with PCHS PE department to help coordinate an effective programme of activities to support Year 8’s transition to the high school.
